Getting Started with the Analytic Reports in Microsoft 365

The business world is a lot different than it used to be a few decades ago. With the rise of automated operations, online management, and intelligent decision-making practices, the growth of years is compacted into a matter of a few clicks.

The idea of informed and intelligent strategies is highly based on data-driven decisions. To ensure such decisions, the collection, organization, and analysis of data are significant.

This brings us to one of the most used set of applications in the business world, Microsoft 365. From MS Outlook and MS Teams to MS Word and MS Excel, Microsoft 365 is a complete package for the growth of any business.

However, many individuals perceive analytics in Microsoft 365 applications as a complex concept. Let’s break this myth today. This article covers two of the basic reports to start with when it comes to analytics in Microsoft 365.

Analysis V/S Analytics

The terms analytics and analysis are both used by data scientists most of the time and stand confusing too. Let’s see the difference between both.

Data analytics is inclusive of data analysis and covers all the processes and tools to use the analysed data for making informed decisions. Data analysis, on the other hand, deals with all the specific processes to collect, analyse, and organize data. Navigate to this link in order to study more about the difference.

Analytic Reports in Microsoft 365

Let’s begin with the good news, Microsoft 365 compiles several analytics reports for you. These reports cover areas like adoption scores and usage to give you an understanding of the most and least used applications, ultimately helping in making data-driven decisions.

How to Access Analytic Reports?

Before accessing these reports, it’s important to know that only the users with a subscription to Microsoft 365 Business or Office 365 and admin permissions can access these reports in the admin centre. To access these automated analytic reports, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to https://admin.microsoft.com/.

  2. Login with your admin credentials.

  3. From the left sidebar, click on Reports.

Types of Reports

There are two main types of analytic reports that you can access in the Microsoft 365 admin centre. The description and details of these are as follows:

Adoption Score Reports

This report compiles different data sources to evaluate your organization’s usage of Microsoft technologies and how it compares to other organizations. These reports can be highly beneficial to find the areas for technology improvements or adoptions.

It covers the detailed analysis of communications, meetings, content collaborations, teamwork, and mobility to access the adoption of technology via people. Also, the analysis of endpoint analytics, network connectivity, and Microsoft apps health is covered to access the areas that can be technologically improved.

Usage Reports

The usage reports compile data sources to evaluate the usage of applications and services by individuals. These reports help name the application or service recommendation to enhance productivity and outcome for an individual member or across the team.

The report showcases the number of active users and performed activities within the specified applications, along with the ability to show the details of an individual user for better analysis. You can evaluate if the user was active on an application or platform within the selected period.

Bringing Things Together

The analytic capabilities in Microsoft 365 are very large. Microsoft applications and services help streamline the operations and data of the whole organization. However, the above-mentioned two reports such as Adoption Score and Usage reports stand as a good starting point to analysis in Microsoft 365.
