Why has MS Teams got such a bad reputation?
Although MS Teams is a preferred platform of communication for many organizations, some concerns are still in place. Usually, organizations opt for the Microsoft 365 suite to help cover all of their business processes, making MS Teams an automatically chosen platform for collaboration. However, it's observed that a user may feel reluctant to choose MS Teams solely if the whole suite of applications is not in the equation.
The following are some of the reasons why users may feel hesitant to use MS Teams:
Performance issues over the internet
Usually, when an external user joins an MS Teams call, it takes a few minutes to stabilize the connection and enter the meeting. It sets an example of a bad experience for the user. In addition to that, MS Teams does not seem to function well, unless the internet connection is up to the mark.
However, this doesn’t seem to be a problem when it comes to organization settings as stuff like internet speed is well taken care of by the organization itself.
Inability to manage large groups
Although MS Teams allows conference calls with a large number of individuals, it is unable to manage the audio and video settings efficiently. This may result in misunderstandings and unproductivity during the meetings.
This issue is not common for small to mid-sized organizations.
Intimidating for new users
In pursuit of making MS Teams a one-of-a-kind solution, it has gotten too many options. These functionalities may be useful under certain scenarios, but not regularly. All this adds to the confusion in understanding for the users and they may avoid the usage because of finding it intimidating.
However, this is not much of an issue for employees as organizations take the responsibility of providing them with the required training.
Complicated user interface
Users who have previous experience of using other communication platforms like Zoom or Google find the UI of MS Teams quite complicated to understand. Finding so many options on every screen makes them reluctant to even use the simple ones. Also, many times, users have found difficulty accessing the options because of their placement on the UI.
Regular users may not find this problematic as they build the muscle memory for the application over time.
File management concerns
MS Teams allows you to store and manage your files, but a high number of users do not prefer to use it as a file management platform. It is because of the inability to manage and control the files, especially when multiple channels are involved.
Organizations usually resolve this issue by using a different platform for file storage and management.
All in all, MS Teams is a preferred choice for many small to big organizations. Users do find some things concerning based on their personal experiences and understanding. However, MS Teams is always working towards improving and catering to user requirements. Therefore, there is a high hope that the above-mentioned concerns will also be solved in the near future.
